PRESS RELEASE OF THE NETWORK OF ASSOCIATIONS OF FAMILIES homoparentality, composed GALEHI (MADRID), FLG (CATALONIA) GALESH (VALENCIA), Magal (Basque Country) and LGBT Families Association (SPAIN)
Recently a gay couple from one of our partnerships has been appealed by the Prosecutor of Valencia registering their twin children born in California.
The children were recognized as children of both parents in the U.S., and entered in the book the couple’s family after an appeal against the refusal of consular registration, which was accepted by the Directorate General of Registries and Notaries, for over a year.
These children are almost one and half years old and live perfectly integrated with their parents and other family and friends. The situation may be, if successful appeal of the prosecution, is totally defenseless because you’re going to question his family for the simple fact that the birth certificate did not contain both a mother.
Moreover, we have a genuine case of discrimination for being gay fathers, because according to reliable sources over 2000 children have come to Spain from the state in the last 10 years, with heterosexual parents, without resorting no inscription by the Prosecutor, and which is always a mother, which of course is not always that gestated the baby.
The Ministry of Justice must articulate a solution to the registration of all these children, putting on an equal basis to all persons, and independent of their sexual orientation, or else they will always be gay people in a position to discrimination, and worse, to suffer such discrimination our daughters and sons.
We would therefore ask the prosecution to withdraw the appeal against the Civil Registration of these children, children of Spanish and Spanish so themselves, who enjoy a fully standardized family situation with both parents.
